Hi 13milesagallon,

Give us a little more info on your Truck, like what kind of tires, is it 4WD, gear ratio, auto or stick, anything that you know of that has been done to it.

Things I have learnt from this here forum and personal experience
Better air flow and exhaust will help a little
Lowering will help a little also
I read some where if you remove your bug shield it will help.
A 2002 might benifit from a good set of wires and plugs

I am sure there are more qualified people than me, that will chim in here and help you out.

Tune it up, check tire pressure, Slow down when driving, dont rush to red lights. since gas prices have skyrocketed I have been getting a lot of people mad on the freeway, I have the cruise control set at 60 and I don't care if people go around me, It is actually kind of nice and relaxing. of course if someone honks or gets stupid and tries to get around me they usually end up stuck next to me and behind the car in front of them. It is a rough lesson but a very necessary one.

A good set of plug wires will help a little, but not drastically.

The biggest thing to do is slow down and accelerate slowly. Jimmy is right on everything he mentioned. Proper tire inflation and keeping up on regular maintenance will help also. I've got a Superchips and it gave me about 1-1.5mpg better.
