Default Canadian anyone?

Hey guys, I am looking at buying my second Ram, but turns out it's a Canadian title. Owner changed the title to Georgia, but the instrument cluster is in Kilometers. I did a couple searches about replacing clusters, and have found a lot of dead end threads. My concern is mostly with resale, if I ever need to turn the truck around, selling a car in Kilometers might scare people away, and deduct from a possible trade in. Does anyone know for sure if I can buy a used cluster and have a dealer program the miles into it? The seller is from Canada and doesn't seem to think the Kilometers thing is a big deal, I'm just not so sure of that.

Feel free to post your two cents, I certainly appreciate it!

I bought a Jeep in Panama while I lived there. All of the gauges were in metric. I looked into changing over to standard parts but it was going to run about $700, 10 years ago. The best option I was given was to get the intrument cluster from a junk yard and change over that way. I opted to trade inmy Jeep instead.

Thank you for the input! Do you mean you opted to just trade the Jeep in Panama instead of bringing it back to the States?

You didn't post what year and mileage the truck has - a Canadian manufactured vehicle will not be covered under warranty in the US (for example, the emissions warranty lasts until 80k miles). Not sure what state you're in but a friend of mine tried to register a Chrylser Intrepid (DCX sold the Intrepid in Canada as a Chrysler not Dodge) in Florida and had some problems.

No, I drove it in the US for a couple of years before I traded it in. It was not too hard to convert kph into mph in my head as I was driving down the road, it just became a habit.

It's well out of warranty. It's an '02, with 2xx,000 km on it, converts to 130k or so miles. All highway, all documented maintenance. The miles don't scare me since the price is pretty close to on target for the mileage, but I feel like the KM/h bit devalues the car since I haven't heard of dealers taking canadian cars on trade.

The title has been converted to a Georgia title though, and the carfax is clean, just shows the truck came from Ontario back in September.

It's not hard to get used to, I hate metric as well and Live in Canada, The smaller numbers in the cluster are in miles.
It's silly to worry abought resale value, if so don't buy it, Chances are you could find a the same car in miles and it may have the crap run out of it.

And don't put much stock in Car Fax, Insurance reapirs, or write offs are only coverd under car fax, thiers nothing to stopping a person crashing thier car and paying out of pocket, or not reporting accidents, or just avioding insurance company's.

The miles don't bother me, what bothers me is the resale. I know you say it's silly, but the reality is I won't always have it, circumstances in life may change and I may need to sell it, and I don't want to lose my *** on it. Some people might not care about the metric, some people might...I could certainly get used to it. The only reason I even brought this up is because the truck has EVERY option I want in a Ram, stomaching this metric thing is the only downfall.

There is always a market for a truck, no matter what the mileage

As for the Carfax, you are certainly correct, but it never hurts and does have a buyback guarantee which I have heard they do stand behind.

Yeah, why would I want my insurance to pay $1000 and I only pay $100 when I can pay the whole $1100 all by myself. Are you freaking kidding me?
