Ok, so my friend and I are changing my transmission fluid this week, and I gotta question, in the manual it says to change it with ATF+4 or whatever it's called, he doesn't believe me, he says I need to use gear lube or something...

Will the ATF fluid work for the manual tranny I have?

Sorry to bug y'all.

Well, I have the Getrag 238 transmission, it's not a Dodge transmission (thank God)

I'm confused now. Lol.

Thanks. :-)

Manual trannys = gear lube. I've never come across one that didn't use gear lube.

Mine calls for ATF+4 in it as well as the transfer case. I imagine you can put gear lube in but the shifting will be stiffer and it may cause your mpg to go down a little too. I would stick with what is recommended, just get a good synthetic.

I have never heard of ATF in a manual tranny ever. ATF is just fancy hydraulic fluid, which there aren't any (usually) hydraulic circuits in a manual trans.
