I have a pair of 6 x 9 Infinity Kappa Series, and when I tried this morning to install them into my 2007 Quad Cab, I ran into a problem: The basket of the speakers are too large for the opening. Has anyone else ran across this problem? Possibly have a solution that doesn't involve modifications (or at least major mods?)
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

I bought longer screws and place the speaker in the center, then screw one at a time, opposite sides first. Then tightened them. Yes there is still about 1/4 inch between the sit of the speaker and the door frame, but it does not move or rattle cause its tight. I would have tightened more but my speaker started bending when the door frame would not.

Well, from what you described most recently, you could mod the door panel and use a spacer ring to mount the speaker. That would have the speaker sticking out a bit. I don't know of any good shallow-mount speakers off hand although you might look into a pair of shallow mount 6.5", might be easier to find one with the depth rewquirements you have. There are also pre-made adaptor rings, or you can make your own easy enough.

I read that thebasket was too large for the opening, not the height of the speaker.

Though, cutting the door pannel and inverting the speaker so the magnet sticks out does sound like a more stylish idea. Who needs the sound anyway?
If I get the chance today, I'm going to run it by my friend who is the manager of the Circuit City car installation department and see if he has any ideas...

Normally, I would too. But I want it to look as stock as possible. And in the event of a break-in, it'll make the thieves work a bit harder (or at least give me a little more time to get to my car with my german shephard... >=) I think I'm going to trim down the frame on the inside. It appears that if I took an 1/8 inch off, it'll slide in fine. Just wish Dodge took things like this into consideration.

I installed the Pioneer 6x9 three ways. Their magnets are small and the basket wouldn't fit either. I had to use the mounting bracket from the original speaker to lift the speaker away from the steel shell. That worked.
They sound just ok. There's just no power in that head unit.

I had the same thing happen to me with the Infinty'sI bought had to sell them . The fix for me was to take the truck to a high end audio store with the door panel off and try differant speakers till I found one that sorta fit . I ended up with Boston I think they were LS95 it's been awile anyway they fit with the factory spacers but were a tight fit behind the door panelI hope this helps .
