difference between 2500 and 1500 Megacab
Just wondering what the difference is between a 2500 Mega Cab and a 1500 Mega Cab. It is my understanding that both models are on the 2500 frame. I'm sure the 2500 have more leaf springs and has a larger towing/carrying capacity. I am wondering what else is different? Any help would be appreciated. I am looking to purchase a new truck and I'd like to know if it is worth moving up to the 2500. I'm considering both with the Hemi so no need to bring up the CTD for the 2500. I'm aware of that difference. Thanks folks!
From what I have seen, (please dont take this be scientific). The 2500 is a more rigid/stout truck. The leaf springs are heavier and it is adjusted to tow a bit more. The inside is for all purposes identical. The 5.7l and tranny are matched pretty much the same....
From what I understand, the 1500 runs IFS and the 2500 is solid axle. And the rear leafs are more stout. I am sure the major differances are mostly in the suspension.
2wd or 4x4? I opted for a 1500 4x4 Hemi and if you compare 1500 to 2500 both with Hemi engines the specs are almost identical. It mainly depends on what your going to do/pull with the truck.
That is incorrect, my 1500 mega has live axels front and back. A quick inspection of the leafs makes me believe they are the same as a 2500 though I haven't counted leafs or anything. My truck has "heavy duty shocks and springs" per the build codes. As far as I can tell the only diferences are options and listed tow/haul weights. I imagine tranny's would be different depending on engine of course, but otherwise it looks to be less structural difference and more ammenities differences.

The 1500 Mega cab with the hemi has a 4 speed tranny and the 2500 mega with the hemi has a 5 speed tranny other than that pretty much everything is the same on the mega cabs
My 2006 Hemi 2500 4x4 quad cab has a 5 speed auto. Solid front end and larger axles as well as beefier in alot of areas are some of the advantage over the 1500. Also, only 2500/3500 Hd trucks can mount a snow plow. All 1500 trucks are not to have a plow mounted on them. That issue alone gives a good idea on the durability between the 2500/3500HD and 1500LT trucks
