Default new to forum, exhaust...not a question

Hi yall...I'm new here, actually found this site today. I have a 2002 X6 Ram std. cab (was there two 6 cylinder options for 2002, an inline 6 and v6?), red, that I just bought used. Buy a v8, I know, but the six, even coming from a Ford 5.4 Triton, seems alright so far. To shed some light on the ever-going exhaust question, I just put a flowmaster 40 series on an hour ago. The shop didn't have a 50 series, and I got talked into a 40...My thoughts: Great at start-up and idle...exactly what I was looking for.A little'different' between2k and 3k, and over 3k a little better than 2k-3k. Over-all, not horrible, and DEFINATELY not rice honda civic weedwacker sound, just more resonance. Looking back, I may have gone with a 50 series, but won't know until I drive home. My daily commute (Galveston to The Woodlands, TX) is roughly 70 miles, so I'll let yall know tomorrow what I think then. My neighbors will LOVE that exhaust at 4:30 when I leave. ttfn

Forgot to mention that I used a si/so with factory pipe. Will the sound change over time, ie. as the muffler 'settles' in or will it stay constant? Will post my thought about a long commute tommorow. ttfn

Congrats on the ride and on finding the site, you will find it a valuable resource and will kill hours of your time if not careful. Is there some way that you can post a sound clip? I always wanted something a little louder but I hate spending money on something without knowing if I am going to hate it or not ya know? Right now my ride has some good sound to it I think even at stock....at least if you stand at the back....anyways good luck to you and look forward to seeing some of your postings soon.

first off, they played you like a dealer would... talked you into an exhaust. you can tlet peeps do that to ya. i know that its tempting to get that exhaust, but i wouldnt let them do that to me if i had my mind set on a diff. exhaust. you know? how much was it all?

well, a lot of the v6 owners (i used to be one up until march) were always wondering how the 40 will sound on the v6 ram. i was thinking of getting the super 40 when i had my other ram. but now when i think about it, the loudness may be overwhelming, this coming from a 19 year old... either im gonna get the super 40 or the 50. im not sure. but congrats on the truck, exhuast, and welcome to the forum! you will find it very, very useful.

hey, if you dont mind the drone of the exhaust, keep it! i guess you can always swap it out for the 50 series. i dunno your money situation, but its an option. did you keep your resonators in too? if so, it would be much quieter. the reason i would more prfer the 50 is because if you want it liuder, take off a resonatorand youll be fine! simple as that!

There are no resonators on a V6. I have the 40's too, SI/DO, same comments. I dont think time will help. Resonance will always be there. My friend has a Silverado 4 door and has the same muffler but his goes out the back, where mine is dumped. There is no resonance in his cab. Its rather quiet, I love it. But mine forget about it, loud resonance. It could be the dump stuff.

Thankx all for the welcome...Well made it home and back...My thoughts are as such: From idle to 2250 rpms simply awesome, from 2250 to 2750 it sounds ok, and from 2750 up, at least on the freeway it's pretty mellow and quiet. Overall, if you want to be noticed, i'd get it. I would be interested in how much quieter a 50 series is, but am overall happy with the 40 and will keep it. I have an automatic, and am not a usual driver: I have never had the rpms over 3000, and usually ride street around 1500 and highway around 2000. With the mustang, I barely go under 3000k, but it's a cobra with stock set-up. I left everything in place, just cut out the old muffler, put in the new, and added a tip. I figured that step would be a good first one, rather than jumping into a full cat back system...which I plan on doing somewhere at the bottom of the list. (power wire, full audio upgrade, level, rims/tires, accessories, ect.)

As far as audio, I dunno...just hate the set-up that came with the truck, which I assume is stock except for the bad head unit. I am having problems with static tuning the radio, have replaced the cut antena that came with the truck with a 6 dollar walmart special, which helped a little, but nothing serious. I would like to peruse the audio section here this week before taking it in next week. I would assume (not being an audio guy) that 4 new/upgraded door speakers with modest amp and 1or2 subs would be just fine. I'm not into competition or anything, but want some power. I think I read a post you had about not going any bigger than 10s, and if I remember correctly you noted that 8s with an amp would be pretty decent reguarding the ?surrounding air? to the speakers. Any suggestions? With a similiar set-up as above, would I need a separate battery? A ?capacitor?. I've seen these ?capacitors (I think measured in farreds?)? and think that they help the dimming of the lights/power distribution from the battery...as you can see i need help, lol.
