Default Anyone have an x pipe?

I have an 04 hemi 4x4 and am ordering Pacesetter Longtube headers. Does anyone currently use an x pipe? I would like to order an x pipe becuase of the sound and performance gains over a y pipe. I was wondering if anyone would recommend or not recommend this. Also where i could find an x pipe to fit my truck? I would be looking for a 3 inch pipe becuase the headers will have 3 inch collectors with 3 inch magnaflow cats. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an 03 and long tubes leaned me out, so get your a/f checked after you get your headers in. I too looked into an xpipe, but you'll need to get it done up at a shop. The 4x4s are tough to put an xpipe in sensibly unless you want your piping to hanging below your trans. They make mufflers that have an integrated xpipe design inside them and that may make things easier/cheaper. My 03 hasonly two o2 sensors andgoing totrue dual would have screwed things up, so I didn't gothe xpiperoute. You shouldn't have this problem with an 04. I ended up sticking with the Y and a catback. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I have been trying to look up information and hardly anyone has an x pipe, let alone someone with a 4x4 and x pipe. I guess I will just go with the Pacesetter Longtube headers, Pacesetter Y pipe and Magnaflow high flow cats with my Flowmaster 40 Series Muffler. All with 3 inch piping and Jet Hot Coating. Hopefully I will get some performance gains. What does everyone think?

Yep, that's why said you're gonna have to get the xpipe fabbed up cause there is no way of getting one in there (normally). If you can find an xpipe that is parallel in parallel out that would work. You can tuck it up where factory pipe went under the bed just behind the cab. Otherwise, just do the xpipe muffler combo.
The jethot is a good idea. I did mine and it's well worth it. I wasn't too concerned with performance gain in that respect, but was looking for heat retention. Headers on a 4x come close to a lot of stuff like wires, cables, brake lines, and underbody. I think 2x guys have it easier with exception of starter motor and steering shaft which is common to all.
As far as performance gains I gotta tell you that your headers will push your powerband up a bit. So don't get too disappointed if you don't feelany increase in snap off the line after your mods. Superchips will help, but you'll only see real performance gains from about 2500rpm and up. Better if you dyno before you do your mods so you can see if you made any progress.

save up $300 man and get a 6.1L cam. Thats the price for EVERYTHING to install it. very strait forward install and nets between 25-35RHP. The cam comes outta the srt-8 hemi and throws no codes. the headers would compliment this upgrade VERY nicely. I have my set up all ready to install just gotta get some time now.

imho id go turbo man. a turbo takes time to reach boost so when you downshift its not instant power onto the trany. i cant recall one turbo guy haveing problems with his trany. The super charged guys on the other hand are chewing them up left and right. Unless you can manage to do a dead stop WOT or no WOT (no flooring it when its gotta downshift) id go turbo (i kno i couldnt do that, punk kids in their hondas) Any ways jsut some food for thought as i wouldnt want to spend 5-6 grand on a blower and have to keep a spare trany laying around cuz i keep blowing them.

Your gona need a simple 3 inch x pipe. and h pipe with a slant in the middle might work to get around the tranny kinda like the stock y pipe how it bends down then back up) but id save the money. I never thought an x pipe over a y would make that much of a diffference, how much gain would you expect?

what does a dodge dealer charge for a cam install? I don't think it's the cost of the cam but the install could set you back a little. Right?

I don't want to burst your exhaust bubble here, but Dean makes a good point about the cam. I did exactly what you are about to do and I think I did things backwards. Did more research on this forum and figured I should have started out with a cam and gears and made the most out of my money. I probably would have been happy with that and stopped there. Instead I did intake and headers/exhaust first. Spent a good amount of money and no real wow factor. I'm still wanting more (or I spoiled myself) and now I'm going to do gears. Maybe later do the cam, but I'm getting tired of blowing money. The cammight be the last thing I do, butby that time it will be time for a new truck.

i wouldnt pay the dealership or any body for that matter. the write ups on how to do the cam swap are very precise and accurate. TONS of people have done them and im not talking just about the engine guros but people that have done nothing to a car except change the oil.
