Locked out of 05' ram 2500
Hey guys this is a first time post I wish I didn't have to make. I have a '05 Ram 2500 quad cab(Texas Edition) w/cummins. Anyway I'm here in Houston Tx and a couple nights ago I walked out to find my doors unlocked. I thought maybe i was a goofball and left them unlocked so I didn't think much of it and left to go to the airport. Once there I needed to go back out to my truck then realized my key wouldn't work in my door and looked closer to find a small hole near the handle where someone inserted a screwdriver then broke my lock and robbed my flightcase(i'm a pilot) out of it. I'm guessing they thought I had a laptop or something in it. They went through everything and found it under my seat. I went to try and unlock it with a "kit" today but couldn't manage to grab the wire it's talking about. It had very generic instructions. Just under the columb "DODGE". I doubt all trucks and cars have the same devices. Anyway I think because of the screwdriver bit it broke something I needed to be able to slimjim it. Any idea where I could find more info on ways to get in there? I don't have my keyless because I bought it used from a guy in Uvalde, Tx and he didn't have it anymore. Damn thing only has the key opening on one side which is a huge flaw! Is it possible to get my VIN number and get a keyless entry keypad? Right now it's sitting in the parking lot of a company called FlightSafety where I'm getting flight training for an airline I was hired by. It's been there 2 days now and I hate taking this hotel van. I know I could call a locksmith but then I'd still have to lock it once I got back to my hotel so I'd be screwed to unlock it again. Saturday is my last day of training so I was hoping to go over there after my last simulator session and unlock it to drive it home. Any help would be great.
The only suggestions i can think of is using a coat hangar. I'll try to explain how to do it but i dont know if you'll understand i'm not good at it! Bend the coat hanger so its as straight as you can get it, then bend a J shape with about 4 inches on one end slide that between the window and the black piece of rubber once you get it about 8-10 inches down turn the hangar slightly pointing the J shape towards the inside of the truck, then slowly pull upwards, its very tricky to do at first it will probably take some time but u should get lucky enough to catch the lock bar that goes across and it will unlock your doors. The only other way i can think of would be to try to slide your hangar between the rubber and the top of the window and try to hit the unlock button. I've got it to work both ways before..... sorry for sucha long post
First, Most lock smiths will be able to change and rekey the lock. You then would have 2 keys for the truck. One for the ignition and one for the door. I am not sure of the process for ordering a key fob for your truck as I am a new dodge owner myself, but my ford, all I had to do was show up to the dealer with ID, registration (proof of ownership), and they ordered me a key and a key fob. Dodges probably are similiar. The bad news is, if the screwdriver damaged the slide mechanics of the lock, then it will only unlock your other doors. You are kinda in a catch 22 here. What I would do, is order the key fob from the dealer, get in the truck, then have the dealer or another company change the locks and the ignition to match. Another route you can take since your truck did get broken into. Have a locksmith come out, get the door open, change the lock if he can, then have a keyless entry with alarm put on. This might turn out cheaper than changing everything.
You can go to any dealership and give them your VIN and show proof of owenership and they can sell you a remote (if it's in stock) or they can order you one. They can also check other dealerships in the area to check and see if there is one in stock being you need it ASAP !! [/align]
Make a police report if you haven't already.
Insurance should cover your the cost of you flight bag and stuff inside of it and getting you a new lock, fobs too maybe. Worth a shot.
Well minus your deductable.
Home owners insurance might cover it also. Since you are required to stay in a hotel for training.

Dude, that blows... I read on an email, that if someone like a wife or mistress or whatever had one of your fobs and yours were locked in the truck, you could call her and tell her to hit the button on the fob while pointing towardsher phone, and you hold the phone towards the truck. I have no idea if this works. Of course if you are really late leaving the bar, and it is like 2am, they don't like that so much. So it is good to practice while sober, as hand eye coordination gets a little rough in the wee hours. If you have a junker or whatever laying around, practice going through the door seal and either grab the handle (doesn't always work as some handles don't unlock doors), the pull for the door lock, or the electric lock button (varies by vehicle). We do a lot of break ins for people who lock their kid in the car and stuff... if possible use some tape to protect the paint on the edges of the door and maybe cover some of the wire to prevent destroying the door jam paint. Also a door wedge works good to give you a slight gap to move the wire around
Oh, and slim jims really hardly work anymore... there are too many "plates" and guards protecting the locking mechanisms.

I know I am
It isnt possible to work. The waves used are not able to travel through the cell phone. Any ways, I had my ford broke into the exact same way. I know they made deals for the fords that you can put to prevent that from happening. When I had my truck broke into though. I had computers, printers, projectors, flashlights, walkie talkies, sunglasses, wallet w/ credit cards and SS, GPS, and numerous other things. Almost 10,000 in the end. It was not a good day.
. Thank goodness for insurance.
