wrong about gas mileage
well about 2 months ago i bought an 07 ram 1500 quadcab hemi. the dealer told me that i would be getting around 15 mpg in town and between 18 and 20 on highway cuz of the whole only running on 4 cyles on the highway. well i've put a 1000 miles on the truck and have yet to even see 15. i usually get around 11 or 12 in town and with about a half hour on highway get around 13.5 whats the deal. and this is trying to baby the throttle to even see if these mpg quotes i got from the dealer were even reachable.i did drive an 06 used one they had on the lot with 13000 miles on itand it was reading 15mpg on both the testdrives i took on it because i was debating on doing that one or just spending a few grand more on a new one. now do i gotta wait till i rack up that many miles before it starts getting good gas mpg or is it just something wrong with my truck. i hope its neither cuz i only have a 2 year lease with it andif i gotta break it in that much before it gets me good mileage then it will be over halfthe time ill even have the car and then when finally break it in ill be getting a new one and have to start allover again
I noticed better mileage after about 5k. Now i get over 20 mpg easy on cruise at 65-70 with no wind. A lot of fuel economy in my truck depends on how I drive (with the tuner on performance I can get 9 mpg if I hotrod all the time). Use cruise as often as possible and you will notice the mds kicking in more often. I leased my truck for 39 months, so I can understand where you're coming from; however, if you buy the truck after the lease, you won't need to worry about that 5k miles with poor fuel mileage compared to the above average (compared to other trucks) fuel mileage that you get in the future.
The whole MDS thing is a crock. Unless you are always on the hwy, you are not going to see benefits. Wait until the new numbers for EPA stickers come out this fall. You'll see a little closer to reality in the numbers. Another thing, most people here just read the overhead average and dont the math on paper. I am not saying you djr, cause I dont know if you do, I am just saying most.
You will NEVER get 15MPG on average in the city. 13-14 in the city as an average, and this is in a average city and keeping RPMs under 3K. In a busy city, NY, Chicago, LA expect less. You can see 20MPG on the highway with MDS and not to many hills. Keep it under 70 with the cruise on.
Go with a diesel more power great mileage and prices for fuel pretty standard.
