Dealer says dont use synthetic Oil????
You've got to be kidding!!!!
As far as the filter goes, Mobil1 or WIX all the way, smaller micron, better built filters. I use an M1-301 on mine--the 1-quart size. Synthetic of almost any kind far surpasses virtually any consumer available dino oil out there. I personally use Amzoil in mine, but Mobil, Royal Purple and the others are great too.
No, you don't have to flush the system either, just change like normal and you're good to go. I change mine every 6k miles with a filter change at 3k. Currently have 52K on mine and it still runs like new.

Hello
I have a 2006 Ram 1500 Hemi and I was thinking of using Synthetic Oil (Royal Purple or Amsoil) but my dealer said that Dodge doesnt suggest using synthetic. Has anyone heard of such a thing? They said to use a regular 5w20 oil instead. Thoughts? Also any recomendations on a good oil filter?
Thanks
Matt

Best to break your engine in with dino oil before going to synthetic, That's what my Dodge dealer told me, Dodge dealers will not lose money servicing, they carry synthetic oil as well as dino oil and are more than happy to have you pay extra.
I switched to mobile one, and my truck runs a lot better, you don't gain any extra time betwean oil changes, you still have to check your oil to see if it's dirty and decide not by the owners manual, but the condition of your oil.
The Ram SRT needs synthetic oil, so how is synthetic going to harm or viod warenty covergae, just make sure you use 5/20.

Dodge viper use 0/40 mobil oil and the P/T turbro use 10/30 mobil, so as long its 5/20w then it shouldn't be a problem. Mobil oil is synthetic, and I'll bet your dealer sell it over the counter. And so I don't leave out the crossfire lovers, Mobil oil too.

When you change your oil, cut into half or thereabouts,a 2 or 3 liter soft drink bottle.
With the screw cap downover, slide it over your oil filter after you have loosened it slightly.
Then push the bottle all the way up your filter and continue to unscrew the filter off.
As the filter comes away from the engine block, the old oil in the filter will be caught in the pop bottle and not dribble all down your arm and onto your drive.[:@]
You can then undo the screw cap from the pop bottle and drain the waste into a suitable container.
No mess and all nicely done.
Hope this helps?

I have been using Mobil 1 synthetic for over a year and a half now in my Dodge without any issues. I use a Wix filter exclusively. I have used Mobil 1 for about ten years now; in a Toyota truck and three Jeeps, and never had a problem.
