hey guys what color is the coolant in the 03 4.7's? also i kno in my hemi that even when the truck is on or has been ran the overflow tank on the top of the radiatior is usually full or close to it. at least there is enough coolant to tell the color of it. my friend is buyin an 03 4.7 and the coolant tank is empty after a short drive and cant tell the color but i thought it looked green. if any body with a 4.7 could go peek under ya hood it could help a guy out from buyin soemthing with problems,,,, or at least put some worries to rest

 

I had one at in my Dakota... it was green

Coolant color appears to varying according to where the truck was assembled--some orange, some green. Don't try to match colors with aftermarket coolants. Coloring is just a dye added. It is not an indication of the actual coolant chemistry. If you try matching on color, you'll probably make the same mistake I did and think it was Dex-Cool. This is a GM licensed coolant that ate the dickens out of my wife's Caravan. 3 water pumps and 2 front cover gaskets later, I've learned my lesson. If you can't/won't purchase Mopar coolant, the use Zerex G-05 coolant. It is specially formulated for DC vehicles. Also, make sure you use distilled water. Tap or spring water contains minerals and chemicals that can cause problems. In my case, Mopar "organge" cost me around $17/gal at the dealer. Plus $1.5 for 1 gallon of distilled water. Zerex G-05 around here averages $14/gal. So not a big difference using the Mopar and you're assured of compatibility.

BTW, if there's no coolant in the recovery tank, pull the radiator cap and see what's in the radiator. Mopar also loads some vehicles with "green" colored coolant.

 

Well....Actually... the color of your antifreeze matters more then some think... if the colors don't match... Don't mix... .2 different types when mixed and heated creates a "gel"... and it sucks having it cleaned out...

he jsut bought the truck from a GM dealership and i swear the coolant looked green, and the front rotors where warped. they said they would drain and add new coolant then turn the rotors but i havent seen the truck yet. scary thinking about chevy working on my dodge[sm=jawdrop.gif]
