First Oil Change \ Can I go with Synthetic?
I've used synthetic oil on most of my vehicles in the past. ( Mustang GT, Ford Lightning, even my recent Scion TC). I currently have 1600 miles on 'Ole Blue right now. When should I have it changed, and should I cycle through a few regular oil changes before going Synthetic or can I simply jump to Synthetic the first time around? I've heard it's best to wait a bit and give the engine a chance to seal properly before doing this, but then I'll come across a thread here and there stating they did the opposite and had no problems so this Irishman is a tad confused and needs your input!

Thanks Hanson. I just may jump to Mobil1 Synthetic first time out then. Better protection, cooler running temps, and twice the mileage between changes = sweet!

Myfirst oil change was at 500 miles. Then waited till 3,000 miles and changed again to Mobil 1 synthetic. I wastaught in school to wait till 3,000 miles to be safe. But by thelooks of what other people are doing it sounds like it does not matter. I have also read posts stating that the cross hatch pattern on the newer engine cylinder wall is now so fine that the rings will seat very quickly. My personal opinionis to be on the safe sideand still wait for 3,000 miles to switch over.

I believe the biggest reason you hear to wait onstarting syntheticis that most mechs want you to change the oil often on a brand new engine and most equate synthetic with long oil change durations. I know engine building is 100 times better then years ago but I still change the oil every 500 miles on a brand new motor for the first 1500 then go to factory intervals. Necessary? Maybe not but it sure can't hurt, although it would with synthetic, my wallet anyway.
