rear differential question
ok i have an 05 ram 1500 slt quad cab. i love the truck but this past week its been sounding like the rear end is loose and shaky and the transmission gears are grinding. well the dealership where i bought the truck isn't a dodge dealership but i have an extended warranty with them. well one of the mechanics told me he had the same problem and all it was to get fixed was to get the differntial fluid changed and a dodge synthetic added to it. anybody else ever heard of this?
It is possible that if your rear diff has the lsd without additive that you would notice grinding and noise. It is also possible that if you have the lsd, a clip broke and it is spinning around in your gears. Could be other things as well, hard to tell without seeing the actual vehicle. When they change the fluid they will be able to check out the differential for any other problems anyway.
All Ram 1500 owners have been hoping that Chrysler has solved the high failure rate of the 9.25 differential, but posts like these keep coming up on forums.
