Default engine swap question?

First let me say Hi to everyone. I'm new here, but am a regular at srtforums. I'm looking ot get a ram 2002 or 2003, but I am wondering if I could swap in the motor and tranny (as well as the computer and engine harness) from a 2005. From what I gather the 2005 was the first year with MDS the 2002 and 03 did not have the MDS. reason I ask is I have found a 2002 truck with a toasted motor but is in great shape otherwise and have come across a low KM motor tranny ecu combo for pretty cheap....could have myself a truck for about 16k. I really want a Ram, but can't afford new, lease or even used with half decent miles on her.
does anyone know if this can be done or can point me in the right direction where I may be able to find the info to do it
thanks guys, pretty crazy first post I know,
before I get flamed (if this forum is like that) I spent 3 hours searching the forum for the info and have not found anything about this type of thing.

Welcome. 2006 had the mds, everything as long as you have the electronics (computer etc.) should bolt right in as it is the same block and transmission. I had a 06, my friend had a 05 there are differences with coils and stuff, I now have the CTD. I love it.

well, I would be getting the under hood harness for the motor and the PCM. guess I should schedule a test drive on a new one and take an older one for a test drive and pop the hood and take some pictures..LOL...I'm sure someone has done this swap already.

2003 hemi (first year) had seperate PCM and TCM. 2004 and on the 2 modules were combined, giving it a radically different harness, I don't know if this will affect how it ties in to the rest of the truck. 2006 first year for MDS in trucks. 2002 no hemi.

ok...thanks for the responses...guess I will look for and 04 and make sure that motor I can get is from an 06. Do you think 7k for a motor tranny ecu and harness combo is too much if it has less that 100km (not 100k KM)
