power window conversions?
i bought a 2006 ram 1500 quad cab with the 4.7l magnum about 6 months ago. its a nice truck but it is a base model. and before anyone says i should have got.... there is a reason i have this model. i had an explorer that had a bad rear diff. Ford wouldnt own up to it as a recall even though i read 100's of stories of people with the same problem. anyways so i needed to unload it and thus needed something with a high rebate to cover negative equity. the ram had 8000 rebates last fall so i got it and this was all they had left at the time for 06's with automatic trans.
now on with our story lol... i have manual windows & locks. i plan to get a keyless entry system very soon to fix the locks however i wanted to see if its reasonably possible to convert manual windows to power windows. i also want to upgrade the stereo since the stock one sux.. but other than that i love the truck (and of course gas mpg sucks).
if anyone has any info on the window conversion i'd love to hear it... thanks.

Do a search on the internet or in your local junkyards... there are kits out there and the last time I looked (in 01 when I bought a stock ranger) they ranged $300 - $600 for kits, depending on differant wireless key entry and what not... I think that was an installed price. Never did it though. But a junkyard may be the cheapest option to get OEM parts (namely the pannels inside your truck)
I changed mine to power windows and locks. I bought the door panels and switches from ebay for $290. I found the OEM wire harness on ebay also for $85. I bought brand new OEM regulators with motors from Dodge Parts website for $160 (all 4). Connected all that crap in about 1 day. My truck looks all stock, no aftermarket window switches. I think an ST with the power package is an additional $2000, I say F.U. DODGE.
Oh yeah power locks for all 4 $20.00, connected to my $50.00 ebay alarm, remote unlock/lock and I can even remote start my truck for 10 minutes to cool it off with the A/C, install time 4 hours, I say DOUBLE F.U. DODGE.
And to add insult to injury, it is not even offered on a V-8 ST model even if you wanted it. You had to get the SLT or the ST V-6.

so now that you fully loaded everything did you get an slt badge too. on some vehicles that come with manual locks i have noticed they have the lock poppers in there just no switch for them. do the st's have anything in there already or is that just one of fords better ideas to go through putting in door poppers and wiring kits for trunk release and power steering and just not hooking that crap up.
"so now that you fully loaded everything did you get an slt badge too." hehe, never. I aint goings to lie to people.
Nope, no door poppers nor harness for it. Dodge actually took the time of making separate components for a vehicle that structurely is the same accross. I mean, the harness I bought was from a 2006 3500, yes it fits all Rams, but it does not come in all Rams. They have a harness for ST, SLT, SRT, then its different for power mirrors, heated, non heated, etc, etc. Yep Dodge figured its cheaper that way, yeah right. The door frame is the same for all models within the year group. They are just dicks. Well I cant blame them, a company is out to make money and if people are willing to pay high mark ups, more power to the companies.

If you have an auto tranny its easier.
The hardest part is to cut the ignition wire. I stared at it for about a minute, then you know what ol' Jack Burton says at a time like this . . . what the hell. I cut it. Connected it to the relay to the alarm system, connect all the other wires, you are set. If you have the aftermarket locks, its easier to connect to the alarm. Its either positive or negative and the alarms usually have both triggers.
The panels, switches and harness, like it was said before, you can find them in junk yards. I was lucky I found everything in ebay. The regulators are cheaper new from dodgeparts.com than at junk yards. Call the 800 number the guy there is very helpful. ONE THING, learn from my mistake, the rear panels are the same for all trucks, all you need is the switch. It twist locks into place. You will see that the manual windows in the back have a ring around the handle, this thing twists out and then you twist in the power switch. I did not have to buy rear panels, but I did not know. SO dont make the same mistake.
