2004 Ram Engine Control Module
The engine control module (ECM) just went out on my 2004 Dodge Ram Diesel with 74,000 miles. (2500 4x4 automatic) The dealer told me that it would not be under warranty, andtold me that it would cost me$2,400 to have itget fixed. After 4 hours on the phone I found out that when they entered the part number the computer told them that it was not under warranty. It was a computer glitch entry error. They found a labor l.o.p code #o8190401 saying that the ECM was indeed covered by the 5100 Diesel Cummins Warranty.
So, if your ECM goes out on your 2004 Ram and it has less than 100,000 miles on it, don't worry, the ECM is covered. However, start saving your pennies because after you hit 100,000 miles, you're on your own. Only the dealership can order a new ECM and it has to be programmed by them. So you have to pay their fee=$2,400. I researched getting a used one from a wrecking yard and was informed that they have heard of the dealer not being able to program a used ECM.
Waste of a day for me getting this figured out, but I can sleep better now, knowing that I don't have to spend $2,400 on monday when I pick up my truck.
Hope this helps someone. This is my first forum but I thought it was worth joining one in order to get the word out.
