Idle issue on startup
Hey guys not sure if this is the right place for this question but here goes...
Our 05 Hemi 1500 has recently stared having idle issue when you firrst start it after letting it sit for a while (like first thing in the morning, and just getting out of work). It is strange because it doesn't have the higher idle like it used to on startup and if you give it gas it doesn't move then all the sudden does and you take off. Untill you give it gas there is a serious hesitation like it wants to stall.
I am thinking it may be something to do with the idle control of electric choke or something...
The main reason for thiking this is we had a problem with the choke when cought in blizard conditions over the winter, we started the truck to warm it up some and after it warmed up it had a choke warning on the dash lit up, and it had the same feel to it where you give it gas and it doesn't move. We shut it down and restarted it and that went away, but now that is has gotten marmer it is now having this idle issue so I think it might be related.
Is anyone else having this type of issue? the dealership is trying to tell me they get complaints from Hemi owners about idle quality and it needs a software update.. I tried asking why it would be happening all the sudden and he couldn't answer that and said since it is not throwing any codes it must be software...[/align]

Well you are talking old technology here, there is no eletronic choke on a fuel injection car.
Could be the TPS (Throttle position sensor). Any engine codes (check engine light)? If it only happens when cold a flash could very well be the fix. When a FI car is cold the computer runs the mixture, idle, ect based on a program and not readings from sensors. Once it warms up it then runs based on the sensor readings.
There was an issue with some Hemi's stalling when shifting from D to R or R to D and I think the fix was a flash.

I have the 5.7 and it took the dealer 2 days to figure it out.... IAC (Idle Air Control) valve sticking due to carbon build up in the throttle body. Truck only had 20K miles and they said problem could be due to poor quality gas (no way - use Mobil or Shell). In any event, they simply use a can of cleaner they spray down the throttle body, let is sit for 30 minutes, start it up and burn it out of intake and problem is gone... Good luck!
