I noticethatvsraptor's truck is a 2500, so it appears that Dodge has quit putting the pre-wired plug in the 1500's such as you have when not equipped from the factory with the tow package. That really sucks, guess they found a way to save a dime. The reason they spliced the blue wire in his vehicle is because that wire is not carried all the way through to the rear of the truck, they had to run another wire.

Since you say that you do not want to run the battery wire back to the 7-pin plug, it appears that you would only need to run the electric brake wire from the controller back to that plug. It would then be only a matter of connecting the controller's appropriate wires to ground, power, and brake sensing, as in the brake light circuit. That would appear to be something that you would be capable of doing if you so desired.

It's still hard to believe that they stopped putting the plug under there for this purposein the 1500. Seems like that it would be more trouble than it was worthfor them notto do that. The plug should have been around that white connector block as in the pictures furnished by jimmydaleoand vsraptor.

I traded my Dakota on an 07 1500 QC Hemi. It had the pin connector attached under the dash above the large wire bundle outside the brake pedal. The truck did not have a wiring harness, but I had the tow package installed before delivery. I had to splice the blue wire from the the 7 pin into the blue wire of the 4 pin under the dash myself. The dealership didnt want the liability there...or something stoopid like that that I got annyed about. The rest of the 4 pin was wired fine. The splice went pretty easy. It did have the 4 pin under the dash even without the tow package.

Thanks for your information, I hope jughead63 seesyour post. It was a little hard for me to believe that Dodge would quit putting the plug under there because it would make it a little too hard for them to install the 7-pin connector on trucks that did not come with it. Perhaps jughead63just hasn't looked in quite the right place. It is a little hard to find in some cases.

I'll bet the reason thatyou had to splice the blue wire is because they didn't know how to run it properly. The blue wire in the connector runs out in the harness through the firewall and ends in a connector just behind the front wheel on the driver's side of the truck. This is where the splice should be made for the wire to be run to the back of thetruck to the 7-pin connector. My guess is that the dealer's mechanic just didn't know where to look for the wire.

Thanks for your information, perhaps it will help.

It was pretty funny... When I spoke to the service manager, he told me the place where I had my brake module installed should have taken care of it. He was surprised when I told him I wired it myself!!! Tell me if Im wrong, but most of us out here would rather do things ourselves if possible than pay dealership cost. Amazing... Oh, I did upgrade the module to a prodigy. My old one didnt tell me if the trailer was connected. A windy high bridge in VT is not the place to find out the trailer brakes are not really connected. This has been an interesting learning experience.

You are so right when you say that most of us would rather do things ourselves if possible, than to pay the dealer to do it. Saves money and you have the additional advantage of knowing that it was done right.

You sure did the right thing going to the Prodigy brake controller, it's far superior to most of them on the market in most every way and that feature you mentioned has alsoprevented me from driving off with the plug disconnected a few times.

I got home and got a good look at the pictures that were downloaded. The pin connector on my truck under the dash is right where the arrow is pointing on top of the white cover to the wire harness. Interesting ... I do not have the blue the blue connector in the picture, that I have found so far. How is the hook-up going so far?

i have an 07 ram 1500 w/o tow package too, and don't seem to have the blue connector under the dash either. Guess i will be running wires too. weird how everything in the fuse box for the brakes are there but there is no connector.

I have an 07 ram w/o tow package. Told dealer I needed 7 pin and electric brakes for my trailer. No
problem, they installed the reciever and a 7 pin plug (for an additional fee). The plug was aftermarket
(Hopkins) with no wires running to front of truck. I went to install controller and no plug under dash.
I'm not sure where to tie in the brake pedal signal without splicing any wires. And I'll have to run the
power & brake wire under the truck. FYI - I had another dealer check my VIN # with Dodge and
was told my truck did not have the "Trailer Tow Prep Package", meaning no blue plug under dash.
Like the new Ram, not happy with the dealer
