MDS How can you shut it off or get rid of it?
you can change the cam,Comp Cams makes3 grinds that when installed will eliminate the MDS, mine is the middle grind and acording to comp, its worth 47 rw hp. So you pick up some serious ponies and get rid of the MDS. A bit of advice, stay away from the biggest grind unless you are building a racer, that cam has some serious lump in the idle. It ran like it was shot out of a cannon, but the choppy idle was a little much for a daily driver.
What does it sound like when the MDS kicks in with an aftermarket exhaust? Does it just get really quiet and purr or does it sound like a rice burner off The Fast And The Furious?
I just bought my truck used and this is my first Dodge. Is the MDS system on all the '06 Hemi's or is that an option I most likely don't have? I haven't noticed any odd behavior from my motor.
Not enough back pressure when you put an aftermarket exhaust system on thats why the mds sounds so terrible. Put the flowmaster on yesterday and took it off today. Back to stock except I bought the 4 inch chrome tip from dodge today. Was nice to drive the truck home from the shop without having that drone/ muffling sound, truck would even run right on the highway when i had the flowmaster on. I've got 24 inch wheels and 325/45/24 tires so you could really feel it stumble at 100 km/h. On my way home it was like a whole new truck unbelievable how ****ty it ran.
Anyhow thanks to all who helped me out with the info. and suggestions JODY

I can distinctly hear when the MDS kicks in on my flowmaster. I hate to say it but the sound when it kicks in sounds like an old 4 banger wanna be muscle car from the 80s like an old Camero with an aftermarket exhaust, however when it's in V-8 mode it sounds excellent.
Oh yeah, even though it sounds lame I still would not shut the MDS off because the fuel savings is great.
