MDS How can you shut it off or get rid of it?
I just installed a flowmaster exhaust on my 06 Ram 1500 with the MDS Hemi. The reason why I want to turn MDS off is because the muffling sound in the cab is terrible ( even hard on the ears ) when the MDS kicks in. I know when you push in the tow/haul button it turns it off but your Rpms rev higher and stuff. Is there anyway to turn off MDS? Will a supertuner give you the option to turn off MDS? Any ideas or suggestions would be great Thanks

Could you describe the sound? I've been wondering what the MDS sounds like running on V4 with an aftermarket exhaust. I might be getting an 07' so I'm already planning my mods. Intake, exhaust, programmer,... ect. The list just goes on and on.

This is something that I would have to hear. I read a few threads about the sound that the MDS makes with an exhaust. Mine however gets really quiet when the MDS kicks in. I have a catback exhaust so I have to figure that the set ups are little different. What is your complete set up Jody for my reference?

All I did was remove the factory muffler and installed the flowmaster super44. I didn't remove the two resonators. When you start the truck it sounds like the factory exhaust is still on but when you rev it up it's a nice sound but not really loud. When you drive the truck it sounds nice but when the MDS kicks in the the muffling sound that's in the cab is terrible. Like a muffling sound, bad enough that it's hard on the ears. It's hard to explain, but when the mds is off it's great. I'm at the point now weather to remove the last resonator on the tailpipe and retry it or just put the exhaust back to stock. It was a disappointing day actually I was looking forward to the nice flowmaster sound )

RE: MDS How can you shut it off or get rid of it?
I know you can drive the truck in the tow/ haul mode but that 's not the solution, obviously the mds engine isn't really designed to run an aftermarker exhaust system. I hate the quietness of the factory exhaust thats why i wanted to change the muffler but the mds system doesn't cooperate lol I wanted to buy the catback system but the stories you hear about the mds/ aftermarket exhaust kind off scared me off thats why i tried this cheaper route first. Perhaps I'm doing something wrong Any help/ suggestionswould be appreciated. When the mds kicks in the sound is just depressing )

Jody,
Start taking off resonators and your MDS willbecome more pronounced.
One of the reasons I picked the Flowmaster 50 series is it offered the best resonance and was less restrictive than stock. By best I mean least amount of resonance.
I know my exhaust isn't as Loud as most, but you can't really tell when the MDS kicks in, and their is no highway drone. I can have a normal conversation with someone in the back seat at any speed.
I don't know if this would help but youmight try having your truck undercoated and sound proof your doors and rear cab wall.
