Default The New Guy

Hey guys, I am looking at purchasing an 02 Ram 1500 Quad Cab with the 4.7L

I was just wondering if you guys have any advice for me or what to look for. Ive been mainly a Chevy guy and this will be my first Dodge, so this is a whole new world to me!

This is my current ride that the Ram will be replacing

i'd really suggest looking for a hemi.... the 4.7 is a good runner, but you'll want more power eventually...

When I buy used, I tend to look for bone stock vehicles unless you know you are buying from a true car junkie. This way you will know that it wasn't beat up and no bad work was performed. Just my .02 cents. As far as the '02 year goes, it is just a matter on how it was treated. If the mileage if high, make sure you take it for a good test drive and if you are not that good with engines, take it to a garage and have them check it out. Better to spend a $75 check up than getting the truck and finding out that any pumps are leaking or theAC was charged just to make a sell or worse, the block if FUBAR. You might get lucky and find one with a warranty though, this will give you little piece of mind.

I hope you're a law enforcement officer -- impersonators make me sad.

You'll be quite surprised at how good these trucks are. My previous truck was a 92 GMC extd cab 4x4 and I looked stongly at the 03-04 GMC offerings (and Ford) before choosing my Dodge.

the hemi is definately the way to go. much more power for when you need it and you get the same fuel mileage. if you plan on towing a lot then it's not really a choice between hemi and 4.7 it's more a choice between the hemi and cummins. if you were looking at a regular cab or something lighter than a quad cab then the 4.7 would do great but you'll end up wanting more power eventually. I will admit my dad has the 4.7 in his rcsb 4x4 with the six speed manual and that thing gets up and goes no doubt about it. but in a qc or mega i dunno. I think the only true reason to get the 4.7 is if you are gonna get the stick shift. if ur gonna get the auto then for the extra 700 dollars get the hemi.
