in minnesota it is required, and what he said is sort of true. Theres anoption in insurance contracts, for a little extra a month it covers anything you pull.

you can check what gear you have by looking in your golve box. there is a sticker that says what you have.

6000 is a lot of weight for a 4.7. What is the tow rating on the 4.7 Rams?

I know my 06 Dutchmen, 7250 empty, has me at my limit. With sway-bars and overload springs it towed like a 8k unicycle. I bought a set of Timbren Suspension Enhancement System overloads and it towed like a dream.

Since this is the first big thing you will be towing a couple of pointers.

Big trucks, 18 wheelers mainly, will push your truck away as they come up along side, and will pull it back towards it once they get about halfway pass. Be prepared for this. I usually ease near the line when I see one coming, then as it gets close I ease to the right side of the lane. When you get up around west virginia and get in the hilly areas be sure to downshift going down hills. If yours doesnt have the tow package Im not 100% sure if it will auto decelerate for you like mine does, I can leave mine in tow haul and going down a hill it will downshift if the truck starts picking up speed with no throttle action. Trailer brakes are great. Make sure you adjust them at low speeds, if not you will hit the brakes and it will A) not do anything or B) feel like you are about to ****** the frame out from under the truck. Dont be afraid to use the manual switch on the trailer brake controller either. If you feel like the trailer is getting a little squirrely, just reach down and ease the brake controller over.

Pulling it one time now, and then again in 4 years, I dont think you will have any issues. Just be aware of your transmission changing gears too frequently. Without a tow package I dont know about the transmission cooler, and if it will keep the fluid cool enough. So leave it in a gear for a while if it downshifts to get up a hill, rather lose some MPG than a tranny.

I dont know how it would affect the warranty if the dealership sees a non-OEM hitch. I dont think they can say, "Hey this thing didnt come with a tow package and you overhauled it" or not, but if the tranny burns up they will try whatever they can to get out of paying for it.......damn stealer...

Email dodge customer service with your vin and they give you the whole build out, very nice to reference. BTW, I just towed my companies' fiber splice trailer a couple hundred miles today, it's 7700lbs, over the 7300 my '06 Megacab 1500 is supposed to haul, piece 'O cake, 70 the whole time, except up hills, and I still got 13MPG at the pump; and Wyoming ain't flat The only diff with the tow/haul mode seemed to be about 200rpm increase when turned on and it stayed in lower gears slightly longer. And heed the advice about the trailer brake, make sure it's not set to brake too hard too quickly, it does feel like the body want's to leave the chassis!

Check Dodge's website, if your Megacab has the tow package it increases your rating to 8250lbs. AndI would have to see your mpg to believe it cause I have the same pickup and same weight camper and I get 12 empty and 8 loaded.

As long as you have insurance on your pickup your camper is covered while in tow.
