I liked how the Meguires Hot Wheels or Hot Rims or something like that worked... use gloves if spending extended time cleaning... takes some layers of skin off after some time... nice and shiney though.

I don't think they really coat chrome as chrome is a coating. Hell, they may even coat chrome now.

For Chrome and some aluminum I use Mothers Products

Here is a test you can do on non chromed metal to see if it is coated or not.

Clean the surface and dry it (wash it)
Take a clean cloth and a dab of any polish (Brasso even) and rub a small spot
If the cloth turns dark it ain't coated.

Try it on abeer/soda can the top is coated the bottom is not.

If you have aluminum you need to polish, I can get you names of products I use on my Fatboy Rims.
Aluminum + Brake Dust + Water = Wheel Cancer

The stuff I use is something called S-100.You can only get it at Harley Davidson dealers. Its a powdery type that comes with a type of rough pad.You get the pad wet,dip it in the soap and apply it.Let it dry to a powder and wipe off. Then I use some wheel wax.I get alot of compliments on how nice my wheels look.
