Regearing

RE: Regearing
Jonam32,
I have an '02 QC w/ a 6" lift and 35's. My current gearing is 3:55 and I have the same problem that you had w/ excessive downshifting in O/D. With your 3:92's , are you able to accelerate in O/D without it downshifting?...(Other than stomping on it of course..lol) I've been doing a little research on the subject and was told that I should go with nothing lower than 4:10 to take care of my problem.
Thanks,
Mike in LB

RE: Regearing
An extremely general rule of thumb is 4.10 gears for 33" tires and 4.56 gears for 35" tires. These are good all-around combos for daily- and street-driven vehicles that do a moderate amount of off-road. You can go to deeper gears for more off-road performance, but you'll sacrifice streetability and mileage.

RE: Regearing
I think the 4.10 is to much. But that is just me the 3.92 does very well. I do alot of short driving. I went back to vegas (240 miles away and hills) with the new gears and it was a completely different drive much improved.
I dont think they even make the 4.56 yet for the 2wd. The acceleration is decent with the 3.92 but if I stomp on it it does DS

RE: Regearing
They make the 4.56 for our Rams. For those of us with the stock 20's, which puts our tire height at 33", the 4.56 LS will give some excellent performance. I am waiting on the Yukons to come out next month. I know Motive Gears has them and you can get them installed for $435-$450 in N. Texas. I rode in Air Ram's with the 4.56s and it had excellent pulling power and seemed to be in OD at about 40 mph. Thus, at 60 - 65 mph you would not downshift unless you really stomped on it and even then I am not sure it would down shift.
