Default Wheels and tires

So lately I've been trying to figure out what kind of wheels would fit on a 2007 Ram and what tires would fit on those wheels, and I've pretty much confused myself. What all should I be looking for when I'm trying to find a wheel for the truck and same with the tires? Perhaps a detailed description could help me lol.

i would not recommend going any bigger than a 22" if you have stock 17's you will need to buy bigger rotors and calipers in order to maintain a good stopping distance. most pasenger and light truck tires have radial construction and the size will be in a 3 grouping format. like 275/55r20. the r denoting that it has radial construction. a common miss concepion is the meaning of the middle number. the middle number is the aspect ratio wich when converted will give the sidewall height. it is a percentage of the width of the tire wich is the first number. the last number of course is the rim size. for example. a 275/55r20 has a width of 275 a side wall height of 55% ofthe 275 and a rim size of 20. when selecting tires. it is best to stay as close to the diameter of the original spec tire on your vehicle. for example, my vehicle came equiped with 275/55r20's. i could go to a 305/50/20 and my tire diameter will remain relatively unaffected. hope this helps.

When I get some time I'll dig up the backspacing of the factory rims for you. The bolt pattern on the 1500's is 5x5.5 I believe.

the srt-10 clone (factory knock off) wheels are +25.4 mm offset (6" backspacing) with 275/55R20 tires. That may help give some idea to comparable rim/wheel combo sizes. For some reason the factory specs are evading me right now; I'll let you know if I can find the factory specs.

Edit: from another post I found from searching, the factory backspacing is 4.5"

you don't have to stick with the standard tire diameter. If you change a bit you can calibrate the speedometer to work with whatever tire size you want.
