Default Problem with Cruise Control

Bought a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 5.7L Hemi. The cruise control does not work but here is the weird part. While first starting the truck andnot moving - I can press the cruise control button and it will display the cruise light in the dash. Therefore, I know that the button and light in dash work. But as soon as I get above 10 or 15mph, the light will shut off and will not come back on even if i press the button again. It will not actually ever go into cruise. One possibilty I came up with is that my truck came with the 17's but was upgraded to the 20's. Could it be that the computer is causing this problem due to the oversized wheels? Not sure if that is right. If it is can the cruise be fixed by using the Superchips Flashpaq to adjust tire height? Thanks for any input.

I had the same problem on my 07. I'm not sure you can apply the same fix that I did on yours since you are using an 04 but there's an orange swithc on the electrical input that plugs into the top part of the throttle body. I toggled it on and off and ever since then I've had no problems with cruise control. Like I said, this may not be the same setup on the 04 but it might be worth a shot.

No dice. I looked for the orange switch on the plug to the throttle body but it is not there on the 04s. Thanks for the suggestion though. Anyone else have any ideas?

Switch on the connector? Could you explain further? That is something I've never seen or heard of.

gage0724--I had a similar problem where the cruise wouldn't come on at all. It was an ETC problem.Obviously you can't engage it until after your doing 30mph butthe "on" light should not go out. Will it come on at all when going over 30? And when does the light go out? As soon as you move after you get going?

I that problem too, they told me it was the brake switch. Im not sure what it was but it was $15 from dodge and he installed it for free. What happened for me was I could get it to work but once I hit my brakes 3 times it completely killed it until I restarted my truck.

The light goes out a couple seconds after I start going faster than idle. If it just idles thenit will stay on. The light does not come on any time after that. I have never heard of a brake switch. But I am going to try and tap my brakes and see if that changes anything. Thanks for the help guys.
