Default Recommend a good off-road/highway tire for stock 17" rims

I have a '05 Ram 1500 QC 4x4 with 17" rims. At some time in the future I may install alift kit and put bigger wheels/tires on it, butit ain't happenin' any time soon. The current Michelins that came on it will be needing replacement before year's end, and they are not as aggresive in the tread department as I would like, as I use the truck for hunting and take it off-road quite a bit.

But.....I alsocommute 70+ miles per day, so I can't put mud tires on it or I'll go deaf and broke. What do you suggest?

Hi
Im running a set of 33/12.50 on my 06 4x4 dodge on the stock 17" rims. I did put on a 2" leveling kit from Top Gun Customz that cost me 89$. They are a set of Cooper STs. I love them alot. Im in Germany andcommute on the autobahn everyday at 85 mph and go off road alot and I have no problems what so ever. The are also great on snow too.

That sounds good, but taking a quick look on the Net it seems that Imay beSOL at installing a 2" leveling kit on an '05 Ram 1500.

Your right. Im sorry about that. I forgot that 06 was the first year that they came out with the new suspension, which will take a 2" leveling kit.

Check out the reviews of the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo on tirerack.com. It's one of their highest ranked tires ever, and I've loved the two sets I've owned. Make sure it's the A/T Revo because there are several "flavors" of Dueler tires, some better than others. While kind of pricey, it'll last a long time and is probably what you're looking for in the tread area.

I only wish they made the tire in 20in sizes. It'd be on my truck tomorrow.

The BFG's ATs are great tires... With care... they will lasta long time... My last set lasted about 40000 and they still have just under half a life left... But very well mannered on and off road...

Agreed, awesome tires. Just put a set of 285/70/17's on my 2003 QC 4x4 off road and they look and drive great. Very quiet and still have great traction.
