Default New Gears $$$$$

I received a quote from a local shop to put 4.56 gearsin my 02 QC 4x4 4.7L 1500, they want $1714.96 for the job and they say it will take 2 days. Now I live in a small town without a lot of options but does that seem like a good price? I wasn't expecting it to cost that much. Any thoughts? I live on the CA, OR border on the CA side.

Gear sets are roughly $300 a set, you need 2, that is $600.

You need 2 install kits, $100 each, now that is $800 in parts.

The install costs around $900 for both front and rear by a quality shop.

$1700 total.

You figure it out.

I’ve found ring and pinion sets that range $200 to $250 so I'm gonna have to go with Hanson on this one.

Wow, you guys got some good shops. It's around $1500 here as well, of course that is parts and labor. I've seen it real cheap if you bring the parts and sit the diff down on their shop floor for them. I guess the best thing to do is shop around farther out but then you have toweigh that cost as well.

i got some quotes a while back and it ranges from 200-350 an axle (rears only or 4x with solid front axle). for the 1500's with 4x they are charging about 1k labor only to just do the front. you gotta pull a lot of parts just to drop out the diff housing. some guys said if you pull the front yourself and just bring it in then they'll just charge me for a regular axle, 250. that's the route i think i'm gonna take.
