My '05 1500 QC 4x4 has steel driveshafts. I can tell, 'cause aluminum doesn't rust.

The 4x4's have steel shafts and they arrive with rust on them from the lot. POR 15 is a great coating for steel shafts because it's thin like water (no balance issues), dries super hard and stops further rust. The 4x2's have aluminum shafts partly because they are longer and the weight of a steel shaft tends to make the shaft warp and cause vibrations. 4x4 shafts are shorter due to the transfer case.

Mine was rusty off the lot as well. Not to worried about it though as my truck won't be a show truck.

Living this close to the ocean and good ol sun shine everything can oxidize, even plastic. Aluminum will oxidizeonly it’s not the reddish brown of steel or iron oxidation.

It's just one of those things you gotta stay on top of. Treat it before it gets to bad.

LoFlyer does POR 15 come in a clear?

As far as I know, POR 15 only comes in white or black. You can paint over the top of it with an aluminum looking color and I think that would look good. It's the toughest coating I've ever seen. If it dries on your skin you have to just wait until the skin underneath sluffs off naturally, absolutely no way to scrub it off of you. It still looks new after 1.5 years but is expensive.
