Default Holes on Volant airbox

hey guys...

Gotta quick question... I bought a Volant air intake kit for my uncles 2002 Ram 4.7 and noticed two holes drilled on the side of the airbox. Is this normal?

I wouldn't think so. I've not noticed holes there in any of the pictures I've seen before.

as I mentioned in the other thread, it should be to let the air into the box. That big hole on the other side is for the intake tube that goes to your TB or Turbo depending on what rig you have and I will assume that the bottom that we can't see in the picture is sealed. These 2 holes would be the only location for your outside "cold" air to get into the filter->TB->engine.....

I know the one I have on my Chevy trucks has an extra little piece of foam/gasket because it sits right up into the fender.

but looking at your picture again, on the right hand side, is that an open area for the add-on scoop or is it sealed? Those hole might also be there to let water out in case you suck some up but they sure seem larger than usual for that purpose.

I assume you didn't get the kit from us but I think the correct kit for your truck is p/n # 16847. Is this what you received?

I looked at my Volant. There is only one hole for the TB intake. No other holes that I can see.

Hey I know this is a reply to an old post, and you may already have a answer, but here goes. I was looking at the your Volant and I think its for a SRT 10 the BIG hole would go into the right front fender for the cold air intake then the other two holes would be facing the engine. Of the two holes the one nearest the grill has a tube running to the throttle body and the other goes to a tube connected to an underhood scoop. I have a picture on my desktop on a SRT 10 of this turned at about a 90 degree angle to the right. I've added a picture of it. I could be wrong but I think this is a pretty cool setup I think I could rework this to make it work on my 4.7 with a dual inlet cold air scoop set up.

Stay cool, Hayden (DaHipaKea)
