Default dumped exhaust illegal??????????

I live in Georgia and one of my neighbors (an old guy) told me that my exhuast was illegal. I have a flowmaster 40s delta flow single in dual out with two turn downs right after the muffler. The "old guy" told me that your exhaust must exit behind the rear tires. He said this is illegal b/c the exhaust gases might enter into the cabin. So my main question, is dumping your exhaust before the rear tires illegal? Even if you dont live in Ga, id still like to hear what you have to say about this subject.

New Jersey Law:

"Every motor vehicle having a combustion motor shall at all times be equipped with a muffler in good working order and in constant operation to prevent excessive or unusual noise and annoying smoke, and no person shall use a muffler cut-out, bypass or similar device upon a motor vehicle on a highway."

Now I am not sure how they determine what excessive or unusual noise is....

Tell that old guy that cars in his day polluted and produced more CO2 than your truck without a muffler.

Georgia Code - § 40-8-71:

(3)The exhaust emission point shall extend beyond the rear or outside of the passenger compartment. The trunk shall be considered as part of the passenger compartment

So, if your mufflers exit behind the cab, you're good to go. He'd have a point if you were driving a car but a truck fits the letter of the law much easier [8D]

In PA, that exhuast is perfectly legal, as long as it extends past your cab.

UNLESS you have a cap on the back. Then it must extend outside the body line of the bed.

Not sure about the location of the exit, however I know that in New York your exhaust cannot be louder than the stock exhaust in dB or you are in violation. Lol, but on the other hand, if you are not driving an import chances are you will not get a ticket.
