My blood is boiling... I called the dealer to see what time I can pick up my truck today. They originally told me it would be done by Friday. Now they are telling me that they got the wrong parts and it won’t be done until Tuesday. I called Dodge corporate to see if they could do anything and they are as useful as **** on a bull. Last Dodge I ever own.

From your post you said that the service manager told you that you'd be lucky if you had it by Friday. I'm not trying to nitpick or **** you off, and I understand that you just spent a lot to get some other things fixed. Realistically, though, take a step back and look at what repairing your axle entails. Parts, man-hours, correspondence, paperwork, shipping..... warranty work is a bitch for all parties involved.

Sorry about your truck man, I'd be pissed too. But you gotta look at things realistically. Would you really get a betterexperience with a different brand? It'd be like same ****, different day.

Better to get the right part and make sure it's done right. Yeah it might take a tad longer but at least you will know it's done right.

Would you all believe I’m still having problems with my trucks rear differential? It’s been two months since I found the chunks of metal in my differential housing and my truck is still broken. As soon as I got the truck back from Dodge (after they rebuilt my differential), the truck started making whining or rubbing noises, almost like tire noise when driving. The noise would happen all the time but more noticeable on right turns. I brought it back to the dealer, who added limited slip differential fluid to the diff housing (they should have done this during the rebuild since my truck has the LSD). They told me to drive the truck for a week and see if the noises go away. This fix didn’t do the trick so I brought it back. Next they replaced my front differential and axle because they swore the noise was coming from the front and not the rear. I didn’t argue with them (even though the noise was coming from the rear), since they are the experts and I just wanted my truck back. This fix didn’t stop the annoying noise either. I brought it back for a 3rd time. This time the service manager went for a ride with me and told me the noise was coming from the front hubs and I would need both front hub assemblies replaced at a cost of $750.00. Enough was enough at this point. I took the truck to a local mechanic for a second opinion and right away he pinpointed the noise was coming from the rear differential. With this information, I brought the truck back to Dodge and told them what the private garage mechanic said. They were reluctant to take the differential cover off and inspect because they didn’t know who was going to pay for the fluids that would be needed to refill the differential. After persisting, they inspected the differential and found that the clip that holds the clutch onto the carrier broke and wedged into the differential housing, scoring the housing. I received this news today after dropping the truck off last Wednesday. This is the same clip that originally broke and started off this fiasco. Luckily, the first time it made its way to the magnet and not in between the gears. I asked what is stopping this from happening again, and I was told “nothing”. Here I am, 3 months later, no loaner car, as of today the truck has been at the dealer for 18 days with another 2-3 to go. The inconvenience and the added money I spend to get around is really taking its toll. Do I have any recourse here? Or is it just shut up and take it? Any thoughts are much appreciated.

This is the kind of thing that gives Dodge, a bad name. You have every right to be pissed. It makes me think. I was just getting ready to flush my diff and replace fluids. I'm hoping not to find anything. Fortunately I'm contemplating new gears, anyway, (from 3.92 to 4.56) and replacing the factory LSD. In your case, it might be better just to take it somewhere else. Maybe a specialty shop or another dealer. The whole situation just sucks! I know it, probably, doesn't help but I feel for you.

This is exactly the reason I installed my Detroit locker when I put in my 4.56 gears. I actually bought a doner axle so the truck wouldn't be done for more than a day. I got the axle off of ebay for $1.25... what a steal!!! However the scoring you talk about was obvious in this doner axle. It took me 3 hours alone to clean out the crap of metal shavings that were inside the tubes. I took the axle housing to the dealer and showed my buddies (guys I used to work with) and they said that they had never seen that before, but it still looked structurally sound, so I finished the install and drove on. 13,000 miles later I have no worries. I knew that dodge LSD's had issues like this, I was just lucky to get my truck to 30,000 miles before I had any issues. This topic has been talked about a lot on this forum, and without any resolution from dodge. However, I know that this will not be the last dodge I buy, becuase I love my truck. Good luck!

Considering that this repair was caused by them, I do not understand why they don't give you a loaner. It does suck and I hope it doesn't happen to me but the bottom line is, at least you have the warranty.

No, this is only a problem with the 9.25 rear with factory LSD. 9.25 open diffs are immune to it also.

I was pissed that the truck I found in '04 that had everything I wanted (4x4, Laramie, etc.) had an open diff. I mean, who would build a 4x4 with true transfer case, and have an open diff. But I bought it anyway, intending to lift it and change the gears anyway, so I just figured to do an Auburn then.
In hindsight -- THANK GOD!!!
