Default 4x4 IFS different?

I've been trying to figure out from reading posts. Is the IFS different in 06 and up? I'm figuring it went to a coil setup instead of the torsion bars? If so, which do you guys think is more durable, the coil setup or the torsion bars? I'm new to torsion bars since this is my first torsion equipped truck. Just curious.

yes that is correct about 06 & 07 being coil IFS. I guess im not sure about the durability with torsion bars. I havent had any problems with mine so far

I agree with you, I think the TB setup is a smoother ride than the newer coil design. Funny thing is... Chrysler's statement about going to the new setup is for a smoother ride.[sm=confused06.gif]

The trosion bars are way better than the coils, you can raise your ride height alot easier with the torsion bars than the coils. If you are looking for a smother ride don't buy a truck. But dodge seems to thinks a smoother ride is what people want, well there new front end it to soft so there is a vibration that everbody complains about on the highway. The bushings in the control arms are to soft this is why they vibrate, also the front shocks all leak after about 10,000km this is also another problem with them. So if you want some durability stay with the torsion bars.

And the higher you crank the torsion bars the stiffer the ride.... Ever think about that? But a truck should be a little stiff.. it's not a caddy....

I'm more concerned about durability off road. I'm wondering how much I should worry about breaking crap after I throw a 4 or 6 in lift on it. I'm not crazy about the IFS to begin with. Of course I don't want a bone jarring ride but c'mon, it's a truck. You should be able to beat it up a little bit without breaking stuff. Guess I really wish someone would design some upgrades for the front end. That or a solid axle swap kit.

I'm sure with a decent lift... a little bashing won't. hurt...
