Hemi, and tranny Questions
Well, Just a few questions.
First of anyone have problems with the 5.7L hemi with 2 spark plugs per cylinder? I would like to know what kind of problems i might have or could have.
Also trannies. which one do you have I believe it is a 545rfe behind these but not sure. How has it held up for you? Do you baby it or race it. Engine mods.. Etc.
I am looking into doing a hemi swap into my dakota and that is why im asking this. Thanks
Chris

all have two plugs . the trans is the same on the all as far as the auto. get the 2500 manual trans imho. i run the **** out of mine with a cam and other bolt ons. i do not let it downshift into passing though,... i used to until i heard that it causes the trans failures, sucks to race on the highway now
What do you mean down shift? Like don't down shift the tranny? How come it's a standard you should be able to do that. Il probably go with the auto only because it is more common. I just wanted to know of the problems people have had. If any how reliable. I have the 42re, in my truck and it is junk slipping problems, everything so I want something solid.
the auto has issues with downshifting at highway speeds. instead of going into 2nd gear it hits 2nd prime or passing gear. that one has some weak *** clutches and well things only go south from this point. many have had them blow and many have not. but it has been stated by proven trans shops that THaT is the problem.

I think the platinums are ok. IMO. I have run them on my truck and I have not had any issues on them. Dodge puts on standard plugs on their engines, and lots of people believe that Platinums or Iridiums run very hot against the engine creating a seize.
Some people swear that they are bad and some swear that they work ok ( I am on the second group) as I use them. I would think it is a matter of informed choice.

Since you say yer tranny is junk and you are going to swap it out anyway just get an after market built tranny.
I hope you take and post a lot of Pics cuz this is an awsome idea. I'd love to see it.
What rear end are you planning on using?

Well i might just buy a 545rfe and get it rebuilt strong. But It will happen depending on money. Il probably do a cam to the engine, crankshaft, valves, rockers arms and push rods. Maybe Il just get the 545rfe and take it apart and replace the prime clutch. But that could be difficult but save me money. Well, I know I would like an stick , but how are they to hold up. I also think it would be too difficult to do the swap compared to a auto tranny.
Oh with the clutch is it the clutch plates basket? or what that goes? I know that this tranny will be a lot stronger than mine at least.
I plan on using something like 4.65 end or was it 4.56. Also plan on a nice lift with a Detroit locker. But I wish I could also do this in the front end. Mind you this truck is 4x4.
