The 1500 Mega has 1500 spring rates and rear spring pack, the 2500 has the stiffer stuff making it a...3/4 ton. That's the only difference all the mega guys have ever told me

i took a look at the specs of both the 1500 and 2500 mega cabs awhile back, i remeber the only differance i could find was that the 2500 had 200 lbs more of cargo, i cant remeber if the gvwr was the same or not but i do remeber the 200 lbs less for the 1500, and yes both having the 5.7 hemi in em'. i just figured the had diff. springs in em

Well I believe the difference between the 1500 and 2500 mega with the HEMI is the tranny. The 1500 should have a 4 speed and the 2500 should have a 5 speed which would probably change the tow rating on both. My mech. at the dealership told me they were running 1/2 ton tranny's on the 1500.
Nope. 545RFE 5-speed auto in my 2006 1500 MegaCab.
My 1500 has the 5 speed tranny... So maybe thats not the differenceORIGINAL: Mean Max

Are the 4x4 mega cabs straight axled or IFS? If they are straight axled then it must be the tranny. Oh yeah, my 1500 hemi with the 545rfe is a 5 speed.

All 4x4 Mega Cab 1500's and 2500'shave the same axles, suspension, transmissions, brakes, wheels and tires. Unless it is equipped with aCTD.

Yep. The truck is only "rated" to tow so much since it is a half ton. So if you are pulling something that is fine for the 2500 mega, but have a 1500 and get in an accident. You could be in deep **** since the truck is not rated for it.ORIGINAL: Drew

Well I wonder what the deal is cause my 2006 Mega Cab definitely has a 4 speed tranny so I guess I need to check into this.
