Default Pinging from engine

Hey all,
I have noticed that my ram likes to "ping" or "knock" under acceleration. This is especially noticeable when it is hot outside & the engine is at normal opp. temp. Is this common with these engines? Should I have the dealership check it out, or am I just being too picky? I HAVE tried Shell, Marathon, Speedway, BP, and CO-OP fuels, all were 87 octane, and nothing seems to matter. Have not reported this untill now because A) thought it might have been the brand of fuel I was running. And B) Was conducting a test to see if Shell's claim to have better MPG on ther gas. (Wich I have, in my particular case / vehicle) have found NO GAINS in MPG on shell fuel.

Mine does not ping either. My old truck would ping only on Shell fuel. Everything else was fine. You might try 89 octane and see if that cures it. Also if you are past 30k you need to replace your spark plugs.

you may want to try using a premium or super unleaded fuel. it doesn't have to be all the time just do one tank and see if that helps. also at the mechanic shop i used to work for, when a customer would come in with that problem we'd recommend using this fueltreatment called 44k made by BG. Try this website to find a local dealer. www.bgfindashop.com/locator/index.php.....good luck

Followup on pinging: Dealership said every now and then it is normal on todays poor quality fuels. But all the time is a problem & it will thow a trouble code if it gets ecsecsive( not shure how to spell that!)
ALSO: poured in a can of CONCKLIN's "4-POWER", All pinging stopped within 100 miles and it looks like I am going to break the 19mpg barrier on that tank! Hmmmmmmmmmm.............
I will continue to run this 4-POWER stuff for a while and let you allknow how it is working.
ALSO, maybe it's just me, but my seat-of-pants dyno is telling me that the engine preformance (ie. hp) has improved a bit as well!

It sounds like a bunch of BS my self .

It sounds like no one else has a pinging problem in the V-6 Forum with there trucks I think the steelership pulling a fast one on you .

Ibeen running Reg Unleaded in my truck from day one It's never Knocked, I tryed super Unleaded once just to see if ran better dont waste you money stay with reg unleaded.

I even Have a Jet Chip Stage 1 In it now and still no knock the jet chip remaps you fuel curve and advances you timming curve faster still no knocking on Reg Unleaded pump gas.

I would find anouther dealer you truck was made to run on Reg Unleaded it's a low preformace motor thats was made to run on low preformace gas.

Hey marv, do you think the Jet chip i sworth the money? I was curious as to how well the stage 1 chip worked in these trucks. And I agree with you. If no one else is having pinging problems, the dealership is bs'n me. But now I have to wait untill all of the fuel additives are out of the fuel system before I can take it back in to the dealership. Still need to take it back to have the SECOND torque coverter put in. So I'll have them look at it then.
