Well, I think that a "break In Period" these days is not all that your making it out to be. In the "old" days of manufacturing (70's-80's) it did take a "break in" period as the manufacturing tolerances were no where near where technology gets us today. My truck has 10K miles on it and i really don't get any better mileage than when I bought it with 6 miles on it. I've done some personal tests between gas station brands and haven't seen any Great results, same with octane levels, basically these trucks are programmed to run on 87, (at least my 4.7 is) and that is where I have found I get my best mileage. 89 gets me a bit more UMPH, but not enough to buy it every day, when I run 92/93 I actually lose 1-2 mpg. Of course winter and summer gas blends vary, everyone will get different mpg readings/stats between the two. In my honest opinion (for what its worth) I'd simply run 87 octane fuel from a reputable vendor and see how it does.
the other thing is the weight of the truck.you have a smaller engine in a bigger truck, this will affect also. in my 05 dak with the 4.7 i get 18/19 around town and 22/23 on the highway and this will vary with the a/c on. but since day one i got great mileage and now the truck has 40000 on it and the mileage has not changed. one thing to check is the spark plugs. i know some of the 4.7 in the daks are gapped incorrectly. one plug might be at coreect gap of .040 and the nexted one might be .044/.050. also tire presure is a positive. the door jam may read 35 psi and the tire may read 44 psi max pressure. i run inbetween at 40 psi. this has helped out alot ceating less rolling resistance and there is no break in period for these motors. they aredone at the factory. thats why they tell you to get in and drive, not let it warm up first.

Yep...expect about 20% worse MPG with that corn oil your burning. Biggest lie ever told by the Government, they still use oil burning equipment, chemicals, etc. to grow & processthe corn, so we aren't saving any oil by using it!
