Worried about my mpg
Hey all, My 07 2x4 quadcab 4.7 v8 is using up 9mpg. Is anything wrong??? Also, it's E-85 compatible and I have been using it. But still i think its a bit too much gas. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Well E-85 does get worse gas mileage than standard fuel. I'd try running a few tanks of standard gas through and see what you get. I'd also start checking a few common things such as your air filter, and tire pressure. Also keep in mind your driving habbits play a big part in gas mileage.
Also, if it's pretty new, you need to put some more miles on it. My mileage was around the 9-10 mpg range for about 4000 miles. Now, with about 13000 and a heavy foot, I'm averaging about 14-15.
All based on the over-head console, so the comparisons are correct even though the actual mileage may not be.
Also, mine is not E-85 compatible, so I have no help for you there.

Yep...expect about 20% worse MPG with that corn oil your burning. Biggest lie ever told by the Government, they still use oil burning equipment, chemicals, etc. to grow & processthe corn, so we aren't saving any oil by using it!
Wow well thanks for the super fast responses. I dont really have a heavy foot so i thought it might be the E-85. Do yall recomend Regular gas or E-85??

I guess that would depend on the price of the e-85. One Thing i would keep in mind about it is it doesnt have the detergents to clean your engine that unleaded gasoline has. So if you want to run e-85 i would switch and use a tank of regular every couple thousand miles to get those detergents run through.
The E85 could be costing you up to 20% fuel economy, you can also expect about the same loss of economy during break-in. On paper that's a 40% loss, so, I would not worry just yet. Now if you start burning plain old unleaded, and get upwards of 10-12k miles on it and are still getting that type of fuel economy..... that's another story.
I've got a Hemi, 4x4, loaded down with HEAVY mods, Suspension Lift w/sub frame, Winch & Grill Guard, 35" tires, a toolbox with at least 300lbs. of tools, winch stuff & a welder in it all the time, and I still get about 13 City and 15.5 hiway...

Thanks for all the help guys. One more thing; give or take, about how many miles until i can truly say that my truck is broken in. right now it only has about 2,500 miles on it.
