Default Hello Everyone Im the new Guy Here!

Hi everyone,I've beenserving in Iraq for the past year and have a few months left until I get back to Texas. 3 days ago my wife bought me an awesome birthday present, a 2003 Ram 1500 Quad Cab SLT. I have rode in the Dodge Rams before but have never driven one, I can't wait. This is also my very first truck of any kind, my last vehicle was a jeep wrangler, so I'm sure this truck will be a lot different. What does everyone recommend for starters as far as performance mods? And is there anything I can do to increase the gas Mileage? it has the 4.7, thanks for any advice

Welcome, Ozzy! And congratulations on the new truck! As for the fuel mileage, my first mod would be a cold air intake. More MPG's and better performance too.

I'm also in Iraq. I'm stationed at Al Asad, but at the moment I'm on the Kuwait / Iraq border at the new K-Crossing. I know, all too well, what it feels like to have a new toy at home and to be stuck over here in the burning sand!

I've got a K&N CAI and I really like it. I even put one on my wifes Jeep Wrangler. I know that there are a couple of other good ones out there for the 4.7 but I'm not sure which ones. I'd just stay awy from the off brands that you can get real "cheap" on Ebay.

I've flown in and out of Anaconda several times. BIG CAMP!!!!!!!

For better MPG, I agree, breathing is a biggy, so CAI would be mod #1. In the mean time there's always the basics like: proper tire pressure, plugs, wires, etc. Changing all fluids to synthetics is always good for a bit better mileage, too. I recently removed my parasytic stock radiator fan and went to an e-fan which was good for another 1.5 mpg. So there are a few little things that you can do, any one thing may only get a fraction of a mpg, but added up, will make a big difference.
BTW: good luck with the new ride & post some pics when you can....
