Pennsylvania Truck Weight Class
I've owned full sized trucks before in PA, but this is my first Ram 1500 with 4x4. When my registration came in the mail from PA DMV, they included a large sticker to put on my windshield by my inspection and emission stickers. It says that my truck is in weight class 2. I've never had one of these stickers before on other full sized trucks. Couldn't find a description of the weight classes on the PA DMV website. Any PA guys have an idea?
Despite the 1500 being considered a 1/2 ton, due to it's laden weight, it's considered a 2nd class weight truck, which is consistent with most 3/4 ton trucks. PA has weight classes up to class 25.
Up to 5000lbs is class 1
5001 to 7000 lbs is class 2
7001 to yadda, yadda, yadda....

Unless you had it registeredlike a 1/2 ton at purchase, (Under 5000 lbs, which most dealers won't do anymore. ) you'll pay $86 (I think) a year for registration, instead of $58 and need a weight class sticker.
I was lucky enough that when I bought my truck, it already was listed as a 1/2 ton (under 5000 lbs) and not under thereal laden weight. Of course, that changes my GVWR, and I can certainly carry more then that now, and if caught, can be fined pretty harshly.
