I'll agree to that! Mostly because I have a '02 with the 360. It was the first year for the 4.7 but the HEMI was the CRAZE for the 2003 model year. Maybe I'm a litle partial but I still like the 360 over the 5.7. Someone once told me "There's no replacement for displacment!" But I'm sure someone w/ a hemi will prove me wrong.
Guy I used to be stationed with was quite loud and proud of his 01 360 QC, and righfully so. But then he made the mistake of trying to take me after talking ****. 15 cubic inches or so does not a big advantage make, especially with much better cylinder heads. The hemi has the same stroke as the 360, but the bore of the 318. Even the 6.1 has the same stroke (3.58") as the 5.9 and 5.7, but a much bigger bore (4.055"). I smoked him. Bad. He wasn't happy.

If you have an 8 cyl. '02 1500, then you either have the 4.7 or 5.9 liter engine.

The 4.7 was the replacement for the 318 (5.2), same hp, less displacement and SOHC. Completely diferent engine family. The only engine the 4.7 is related to is the 3.7 V-6.

Some like Hemilonestar call the 4.7 a " little Baby Motor" lol. That still hurts me. But on a serious note everything I have read about the 4.7 says it is a good engine.

I've got a 4.7 and it is a good engine. Under powered for a QC 4x4, but good none the less. I had a '96 ram with a 318, and although my 4.7 has more bottom end, but that'd be due to gearing and the fact that it's a 5sp manual, my 318 had way more at the top end.

Sorry, but seriously, I've driven one in a Dakota, it is a good engine, I just think its too small for the 5200 lb Ram. I think it would've been a great base model V-8 for the LX cars. It is an efficient engine, small bore/long stroke. With overhead cams, I wonder what it would act like if you open up the bores and shorten the stroke to make it rev.
