Iwas just wondering if the best speed on highway, for fuel economy and distance was 65 mph onmy truck ? And by that i mean on cruise control.I know that on my old dakota, i used to have a better fuel milleage going at 70 mph on cruise control than 65 mph ( more momentum so it did't needed to downshift when i was going up hills and big footsteps ) Also do you save on fuel by using cruise control ?

RE: what is your best highway speed for mileage ?
I get my best results at about 1800 - 2000 which is about 60 - 65 mpg. I get better mpg if I am not using cruise control. Going up hills I will push the gas pedal to the point where it will give the max amount of speed without downshifting. Granted I will slow down a couple mph but it will save fuel. Also in cruise it will downshift to slow down going downhill and this will also burn more fuel than if you were just coasting down the hill. If I am on a long trip, providing that I know I am going to be going downhill, I will turn off cruise and coast down the hill to save fuel and reengage it once I start to slow down.
I drive about 60-65 on the freeway all the time. It saves me a lot of gas. But lately, I have been hauling some major *** (80-85) because I have been on a tight schedule this last week. I noticed a HUGE difference! It wasn't like a 1.5 mpg loss, it was 2.5+! So uh... I keep it at 60-65. It's what works for me.
