Whattsup, fellow "newb"? I run 87, in my '04 Hemi. Every so often, the gas prices dip down enough for me to run a tank of the good stuff. I have not seen any issues (knocking-wise), with the 87 octane.
I run the 89 octane as stated in the manual. The price difference between 87 and 89 is only $0.06 a gallon here in NC. Filling up with 30 gallons of 89 octane is only a $1.80 more than the 87 octane. Run the 89! Red
