Hey Mike welcome to the forum! All the Hemi engines are recommended to run at least 89 octane. There are people that will run 87 with no problem and there are those who will experience knocking while running 87. I myself run 91+ octane to support my superchips tuner. Before the tuner i always ran 89.

Just curious.... I have an '03 1500 w/ 4.7 litre - The owner's manual says to use 87. I just put a half tank of 91 in it and it doesn't seem as weak as it did before. It actually seems to run a bit better, not much, but noticeable. I don't hear any knocking or pinging or anthing that alarms me.... Is this alright to do? Is it better or worse for the 4.7?
I've always gone by the book in these matters, but I'm just wondering if anyone has had an experience in this area...

You can buy a programmer, such as a superchips, that has an economy mode that will allow you to safely use 87, and believe me, 87 with that tune will outperform stock with 89, and your tranny shifts will be tons better than stock. You'll also get added benefits from it.
