I am glad I could add some humor to this conversation. I stillfeel frequent oil changes are cheap insurance. I like synthetics for other reasons besides a longer life than dino oil.So spending $60 every 3000 miles seems like a solid deal for a truck I really like.
Best measure for oil changes is how dirty your oil is. Booth dino oil and synthetic have the same oil change interviles, I do find mobil 1 stays cleaner longer, I get better mileage and perormance is better, I try to change my oil every three months.
dam oldmoparman you really did your homework no this one and you bring a lot of good points,i to work for a township an our stuff is maintaned pretty much the same with conventional oil except the newer fords, they take synthetic,an also on motorprobems, getting back to the question i change mine around 3500-4000,but i am also pretty hard on my truck

Everyone here probably has a different perspective on this.

im waiting on the oil test back for mine at 5 thousand. i change my filter every 3 thousand. the oil turnin colors has nothing to do with how well its still protecting your engine. if that was the case id be changine the oil in my old diesel every 10 miles. do an oil change and send some to a lab if you want hard results. i kno another member did a test on amsoil and found that even after 15,000 miles it had lost no viscosity etc...ill ask him for his OA and post it. your filter seems to be the real limiting factor. once its full you oil has to suspend the dirt and ash etc...
