RE: electrolysis
I purchased a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9/360 a month ago and after the first week i started to smell antifreez well after exploring for the leak i found one of the freez plugs was leaking very badly so i changed the leaking freezplug, then i find out from a friend about electrolysis could be in the water system, well guess what? a few days after repairing the freezplug the water pump goes out, found it to be all ate up from electrolysis, changed the pump, few days after that i noticed water comming from the frunt of the motor, found that the thermastat housing was all eaten up as well, so i repaired all that and now waiting on the radiator and heater core to fail i did contact my local dodge dealer on the mater and one of the machanics told me that they found after a good flushing of the system to use DISTILLED WATER in the coolant system, he says they found this to help or solve the electrolysis problem so xing fingers and we'll see. but yes electrolysis can harm your motor and your wallet

RE: electrolysis
so if there is current running thru the coolant, doesn't that mean that the block and other parts are not grounded properly, and what would be done to fix it. distilled water may work because it is filtered and there is nothing in the water to polarize, but the damage is done, and irreparable, so replacement, hmmm... that sounds nasty.
