MOPAR 5.7 HEMI performance or 6.1 HEMI cams
So I have been told from Crysler that there is about half to full year wait for the 2007 HEMI MOPAR parts to come to market, giving me plenty of time to plan my new cam install. The fact being I drive a leased 07 Ram and I have the itch, I spoke to Crysler and basically they will honor any warranty to any install on any vehicle as long as the parts are MOPAR and they do the install themselves. Don't get me wrong this is really for engine upgrade, they dont really give hoot about bolt-ons as we all know.
So I've done alot of the the basic bolt-ons now I'm ready to step up to sometime a little more serious. I've looked at prices and abilities and have come the conclusion that a cam swap would suit my needs just fine. The time I need to get the parts will also give me more then enough trips to the strip to perfect what I have before I go to a next level. I'm running a 16.1 now with a tailgate, spare, full tank, crap oil and crap gas. That was my first and only day at the track, I ran 19 times and my first run was 16.45 my last was 16, basically I have alot of room to work with for now.
Heres my question to you all. Can anyone tell me the performance advantages or disadvantages between the Hemi 5.7 performance cam and the 6.1 Hemi cam and which one would be a better fit for my situation? I would also be more then happy to here about alternative that perople might have to cam swap that would as much a bang for the buck.

my dealership would crap a brick if i put a cam in my truck and tried to take it in for warranty work. i didnt lease i purchased my truck also. i dont think you can get away with modifying a vehicle under lease. If you do then plan on buying it at the end of your lease.

Chrysler gives a 'company line' about the 6.1 cam because a few years ago the EPA levied $60 million fines on Catepillar, Detroit Diesel and Int'l Harvester for putting non-approved parts on engines after sale.
this cam article on the 5.7 is worth a read

Keep in mind that there are several companies that will regrind your stock cam to a new profile of your choosing, including the 6.1 specs, for a very modest cost compared to buying a new cam
