Functional hood...worth the $$$?
I've searched this topic and the threads seem very old. Also, opinions seem to differ on whether it's worth the money and whether or not the benefits are big or small. I've been looking at functional hoods and they are somewhat pricey. I have a Mopar cai, that comes out to the passenger side before the grill, next to the radiator and tranny fluid cooler. Most hoods I've seen, are designed to blow air to the middle and back of the engine compartment. You can opt for a cai designed for the hood, which seems to be set up for intake @ the point that air comes through hood, into engine compartment. I don't want to buy a new cai. Would I have to modify a new hood to get air "directly" to my cai? Or is it getting enough, already? My other concern is that the Mopar cai is metal and metal conducts and retains heat. The means "hai", right? I know the trick is to keep engine temp as low as possible. What about cowl induction? Anyway, can I get some comments, either positive or negative, from someone that's purchased a functional hood?
the shaker hood setup for the ram is worth the money. with ram air setups your probably not going to find any useable horsepower gain information being that they only produce results when the truck is moving and air is being forced through it. If i had money to burn, i would get the shaker hood for my truck.
