With that much power increase, I would imagine a fairly strong lope and rougher idle. Could possibly cause a code from time to time (might not though). Just make sure to change your springs and probably pushrods. The best springs have been found to be the 6.1 exhaust springs, I haven't heard of any of them ever breaking.

comp cams say that the cam is completely compatible with our cpu and wont cause any side affects. I'm a skeptic though i want to hear someone that has that cam tell me that. i was looking at the dyno results for this cam and from what i can tell there is no change in the powerband until your over 4000 rpm or so. If i end up getting this cam im probably going to use comp cams springs also. Im at a toss up between this one and the 6.1 mopar cam.

after doing some research it looks to me that the xfi 268 is a better choice for slightley moded vehicles. shows bigger gains than the 273 at rpms that a stock truck would run at. i have a bully dog and i chose to leave my shift points stock. i think the first two shifts occur at around the 5500 rpm range.

The hp gains on the comp cams were done on an engine dyno with a standalone PCM. Not on a chassis dyno with the factory pcm governing it. The hp levels are no where close to being what's advertised unless you're using a crate motor in an old mopar.

And the 273 has caused more havoc with tuning than any other cam out there. Even B&G's flash for the KRC 220 cam can't completely tame the 273. You'd need the B&G flash and an smt6. If you tried to use a piggyback only, you have to pull so much map voltage that it causes bucking issues at random part throttle transitions and causes lower transmission line pressures.

so basically the 6.1 is as good as it gets if you want a truck that still behaves? I'm thinkin of doing the cam swap myself. anyone done it? if you paid someone how much did it cost?

the xfi 260 is as close to the 6.1 in terms of pcm compatability...any other cam an you have to do some serious tuning... and i would rethink the comp springs...hearin too many broken spring stories including the last cam install I did, he drove less then 50 miles an a spring broke, needed to replace a head and a piston. the 6.1 exhaust springs are the way to go with 6.1 rods as well...

It's been three years since any new posts on here and I'd like to know if any new info has risen on the XFI or the 6.1? Which one is the best to go with on a slightly moded 5.7? Also, would it be wise to just replace the springs AND pushrods? Finally, what would an average cost of install be on something like this.

Thanks
