Ram Hemi wheels plastic?
I have had my truck for 2 weeks now. I washed and polished it at the end of the first week. I was a little upset when I polished the wheels. They are plastic. They are 20" chrome Thunder Road wheels.
But they do look good. I just hate, they said Thunder Road editions were known for there wheels. To find out they are plastic covers.

They never made a 20"chrome without the plastic cover. The 20" that sort of looks like chrome that is not plastic is a polished wheel. The shine is not quite like chrome.

You can tell it is a cover by looking at the valve steam hole.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Gorge...QQcmdZViewItem
i see, but on the dodge website for the 07's it says that the 20 in chrome clad aluminum wheel, doesn't that indicate that its an aluminum underneath it?? also it has teh same wheel 20 in aluminum wheel that looks exaclty the same just not so shiny.

I always figured my wheels were polished rather than chrome. Like 94rt10ohio said, the reflection isn't clear enough for chrome. Overall I think the polished wheels still look really nice. I may even take the time to give 'em a good polish this fall.
My 07 QC has chrome "clad" wheels. They have chrome colored plastic covers. I think it's a ripoff for $400 option. I didn't realize it until I washed the truck for the first time. That is one of my few thumbs down of the new truck.
Some rims 20inch rims are just aluminum these rims don't have the shine, the other option is the chrome rims these are still aluminum with a plastic chrome cover on them. This has been like this from 03 an up.
Don't feel too bad about these guys, most manufactures have gone this route - with EPA regulations & stuff plus the almighty cost winning out. I first noticed it on my 300C, the 18's on that have them. When i started looking for trucks in May, GM has versions of "chrome clad" on their pick ups too.
If you get a chance, go to a dodgedealer and look at all the wheels on 2500's and you'll see the differerence between the aluminum, chrome clad and argent - they're all the same wheel just finished different. 3500's i believe are the same way.

Thanks for all the information.
I have a full set of the shiny "plastic" rims that came on my '04 Hemi Ram. I didn't like swapping road tires and snow tires off and on the rims twice a year. I went out to eBay and bought 4 individual wheels and only found out that there was a different model when they all arrived. I now have 3 with the plastic covers and one without. I was hoping I could just pop the cover off and they would all match. None of them are steel, they are all aluminum. Or maybe even buying the one cover from the dealer. My dealer didn't have a clue as to what I was talking about.
b-t-w, the parts guy at my dealer quoted me $800+ for a single rim.
